The purpose of the equipping pastors of Southwood Baptist Church is to equip the members to carry out the Great Commission through building relationships, modeling servant leadership, and discipling its members.

Senior Pastor: Dr. James Burkett

A graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University and Southwestern Baptist Seminary,  Jim has pastored a number of growing churches in Georgia, Arkansas, and Oklahoma, including Hillcrest Baptist Church in Stillwater, Oklahoma.  He has also served as an adjunct instructor at several Christian Colleges and has conducted workshops and seminars on Apologetics all across the country.  Jim is an avid student of church growth strategies and has served as a research assistant for Church Growth Today.

Worship Pastor: Jimmy Lawbaugh.

The corporate worship experiences at Southwood Baptist Church are a fundamental part of our total church life. It is the desire of all those who serve in this ministry to lead God’s people into His presence each week. The tools that are used of the Lord – preaching, music, drama, testimonies, and video – are just some of the means that God uses to speak to us through His Holy Spirit.

The Worship Ministry is a multi-faceted organization that involves people of all ages. It is our goal to encourage and enable everyone to understand and actively participate in worship acceptable to God. We desire to have a ministry comprised of people who desire to live a lifestyle of worship, and seek to live in obedience to God and His Word by using their gifts in His service.
